4 Awesome Sustainable ToothPaste Alternatives

Updated: Mar 10

Whether you are trying to live zero-waste wholly or just starting your sustainable journey, oral care should also be something you think about.

Why? Most of the traditional personal care products are packed in plastic packaging, which is very difficult to recycle (or in most cases impossible!). In addition, their ingredients are not as environmentally-friendly nor good for our health as they may seem in the beginning.

For example, triclosan. It is a chemical with antibacterial and antifungal properties; it was in 2016 recognized as not safe for use in soaps and similar products because small amounts can penetrate through the skin and, when accumulated, cause endocrine disruption and other health concerns. Nevertheless, its use is not banned for use in toothpaste because it is proven that it prevents gingivitis.

So, to avoid both unwanted waste accumulating in the landfills and harmful chemicals in our bodies, we should use personal care products made from substances that do not harm us and which have minimum packaging or with one which can be easily recycled.

We talk about sustainable toothpaste in this post, read on to learn more about four sustainable alternatives to your traditional toothpaste. These do not contain harmful chemicals, and they are packed in environmentally-friendly packaging that can easily be recycled as well.

So, let us begin!

The toothpaste comes in a 100% recyclable metal tube and cardboard box, which is compostable. There are two available flavors: peppermint and peppermint + charcoal (which offers extra whitening!).
